Printing, printing!?
Printing, printing!?
In the #OPZuid project, DeltaProto is working on a roadmap towards additively manufactured #PCBs for prototypes and small series.
The ambition is clear: develop faster, waste less material and produce electronics locally.
We're deliberately starting with a first, relatively simple step: * connecting conventional (SMT) components on conventional PCBs with electrically conductive adhesives instead of solder.
Not new, but for us an important step towards ultra-fast prototyping and more sustainable electronics development.
The next step is producing single-sided #PCBs with conductive inks. Although a single-layer PCB isn't a breakthrough in itself, it helps us better understand the processes, materials and limitations of additive electronics.
After that it gets really interesting: * multilayer printed PCBs * printed vias and interconnections * integration of components into the production process
Alongside developing materials and processes, we're also focusing on the machines needed to make this form of prototype PCB production practical and scalable.
We're still at the very beginning, but the potential is huge. Not only for faster iterations, but also for a fundamentally different way of developing and producing electronics.
To be continued.
