Prototype PCB assembly. Built to be changed.
A prototype is never right the first time. You know that, and so do we. So we build your board in a way that lets you test it, change it and have it back in your hands within days. Not in six weeks.
Why an EMS says no to five boards
Before we started DeltaProto we were already developing electronics ourselves, and we still do, for the machines we develop. And we hit the same wall as you: the assembler wants to sell a series. Five boards? Minimum order quantity. Two weeks of lead time? More like six. A change after the first sample? New quote, back of the queue.
That is not unwillingness. A production line is made for many identical boards in a row. Every changeover costs money, so the small order moves to the back. But in the proto phase the small, ever-changing order is the only one there is.
We are the opposite: high mix, low volume
DeltaProto assembles prototypes and small series only. Different boards every day, each in small numbers. Our machines, our software and our way of working are made for that, not for series. What is the exception at an EMS is the rule with us:
- First Proto. We build one sample first, not the whole order at once. You test it. More than 90% of our customers change something afterwards.
- List of Change. You put your changes on the list, we build the next samples from it. Three samples per order are included, and if you need more, we build more. Each with its own revision.
- Repair instead of rebuild. Swap a component, add a wire? Send the sample back with our free return voucher.
- The order moves with you. Faster delivery, a pause, 8 boards instead of 10 in the end: no problem.
- Design for Prototyping. Function first, DFM and DFT after. Iterate early and there is less to repair later.
What you get
- Price in seconds. Upload Gerber, BOM and centroid, read the price. About 95% accurate; the offer follows within hours, once we have looked at your files.
- Your files as they are. Send Gerber and drill, BOM and centroid the way your CAD tool exports them. Matching columns, converting units and repairing a broken CSV is our job. If something is unclear, an engineer asks you before you order. We would rather ask than guess.
- First PCBA in days. Lead time from 5 working days to dispatch of the first sample, PCB and components included.
- Parts at the supplier's price. We buy at Digi-Key, Mouser, LCSC, Farnell, TME, RS, Arrow, Verical and Würth Elektronik, only what is in stock there, and add no markup: you pay what the supplier charges us. Packaging does not matter to us: reel, cut tape, tube or loose. You can always supply your own components, and we desolder a scarce part from your old board free of charge.
- SMD and THT, by machine and by hand. 0201, BGA, QFN, connectors. If it is on your board, we place it.
- Two labs in the Netherlands. Amsterdam and Enschede. Inside the EU your boards arrive without customs: just a parcel.
- A cake. If your First Proto is right the first time, we send a cake. It happens. Not often.
Who we work for, and who we do not
For development teams, startups, research groups and student teams who want to hold a circuit in their hands before it is finished. For proof of concept, prototype, 0-series and field test. And for the expensive middle ground: 20 to 200 boards, where an EMS mostly charges you for its setup. We are built for flexibility, so with us that run stays viable too.
Not for series production. From a few hundred boards an EMS is the better choice, and we will tell you so. Until then we are faster, and you can change as often as you like.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Two boards, no more. There is no surcharge for small quantities.
How fast do I get my first prototype?
The lead time starts when you order and counts in working days until the first sample leaves our lab. From 5 working days, including the PCB and buying the components.
What if I want to change something after the first sample?
That is what the whole process is made for. Put the change on the List of Change and we build the next sample from it, or modify the existing one.
Which files do you need?
The PCB data as a Gerber and drill set, the BOM and the centroid, the way your CAD tool exports them. An ODB++ archive is welcome but not needed; we do not support IPC-2581. What we read from each file is in the wiki.
What do the parts cost?
What the supplier charges. We add no markup on parts, and we only order what the supplier has in stock.
Can I supply the bare PCB myself?
Yes. You can supply the bare PCB yourself; we assemble it.
Can I supply components myself?
Yes, as long as they are clearly labelled. We can also take a hard-to-get part off another board for you.
